Wako * – San Francisco

Once in a while I like to treat myself to a good Japanese meal, a good friend who is an expert in Japanese cuisine took me to Wako located in the Richmond district on Clement Street. While I was searching for the address I was pleasantly surprised that it was a Michelin One Star establishment. A small restaurant, we decided to sit at the bar.

Diners have the option to do a la crate, but we chose to go with the long form of the Omakase that is offered at the restaurant. The dinner was simply delicious, nothing complex, nothing ostentatious, just simple high quality food with subtle flavors. This the first time in a long time I actually ate the meal with my fingers, a most traditional way to eat.

I look forward going back to see what the next omakase will be like. I will be going back, hopefully soon.

They asked us if we wanted to add anything… and showed us the menu again even after we had already selected the Omakase.

The first plating was a bit confusing, was not sure of the order, so I ate the raw and cold dishes first and the moved on to the hot / cooked plates. IMG_0577
